Head Coach/Manager Roles/Responsibilities:
Attend and participate in skills evaluations. You will be able to view each player and their skill level. Your participation in evaluating during skills and participating in team selection ensures fair and balanced teams. Please refer to the league calendar for information on skills evaluation and team selection times/dates
Participate in team selection by attending the draft. (All divisions except t-ball) This is usually held the following week after skills evaluations. Each manager will round robin select their players for their team.
Coordinate your desired practice times with the division player agent or coach coordinator during the draft and communicate these practice times with the team.
You are representing Shadow Mountain Little League and will be the main contact for all league information.
Follow LL International rules of baseball to the best of your ability
If your team doesn’t already have a team parent and/or assistant coach who has volunteered, explain the value/importance of these roles to parents and try to recruit. If you have recruited a volunteer, please refer them to the league website where they registered and have them fill out a volunteer form to begin the background check process immediately. ALL volunteers must be background checked, including team parents. If they do not register as a volunteer on the league website, they will not receive important league information regarding their roles.
As a coach, you have the ability to add and delete practice times to our website. Please use this tool to help facilitate clear communication with your team and the league. Coaches may elect to use gamechanger or communicate with their players in the way that works best for them. Game schedules will be posted to our website. Practice times will need to be communicated to the players and their families by the coaches, not the league.

MANAGER/COACHES CODE OF CONDUCT
You have elected to participate as Manager or Coach in Shadow Mountain Little League. Coaching in a youth sports program such as Shadow Mountain Little League (SMLL) is a privilege that is not to be taken for granted. Managers/coaches are appointed by the Shadow Mountain Little League Board of Directors. You as a manager/coach have an important role in the development of the young children of Phoenix. We strive to teach each child the positive values of good sportsmanship, fair play, and teamwork, values that they can use throughout their lives. In order to ensure that each coach is acting in the best interest of the children and for the betterment of the League as a whole, SMLL has developed a Coaches Code of Conduct for all managers and coaches participating in Shadow Mountain Little League.
As an appointed Manager or Coach to SMLL you are expected to pledge to fulfill your responsibilities as a youth sports coach by pledging to adhere to the following code. You understand that all coaches are expected to adhere to these and all Shadow MountainLittle League and Little League Baseball rules and codes of conduct.
As a SMLL Manager or Coach I pledge to :
Follow 0fficial Little League and SMLL local rules with no exceptions.
Place the emotional and physical well being of my players ahead of my personal desire to win and remember that the game is for the children, not the adults.
Treat each player as an individual and with respect, while teaching the importance of being part of a team and putting the team ahead of individual goals.
Provide players with positive feedback and constructive criticism
Focus on developing the skills of all the players on my team
Lead by example at all times, using appropriate language and behavior.
Interact with all opposing coaches, parents and umpires in a professional manner. At no time will I yell from the dugout or coaches’ box to an umpire, nor will I respond to comments from fans during a game.
Encourage good sportsmanship by teaching my team to win or lose graciously
Compete fairly and do nothing to gain an unfair competitive advantage (e.g intimidating opposing players or umpires)
Demand a drug, alcohol, and tobacco-free sports environment for my players
Participate in required activities such as field preparation and umpiring duties
Agree to attend all required training seminars (e.g. first aid, coaching, umpiring)
Agree to contact my assigned SMLL Agent and report any type of physical or verbal abuse or non-fair play that I eyewitness
I will first discuss any concerns about how coaches are coaching or how umpires are officiating with the coach/umpire after the game is completed, and if not satisfied, then to my assigned SMLL Player Agent. I will discuss any concerns about how the league is run with my Player Agent and/or with the SMLL Board as a whole.
At no time shall I make any comments to the press, as a representative of SMLL without express permission from the President of SMLL.
I have read and understand this SMLL Code of Conduct. I understand that failure to comply with this Code of Conduct will result in a review by the SMLL Board of Directors and the Board may assess disciplinary action up to and including the revocation of coaching privileges for the current season. I agree that I will have an opportunity to be heard, but that all decisions by the SMLL Board of Directors are final.
